“There’s just something about the seriousness of official pronouncements that calls for humor. It got me to wondering just how far an official would go to keep a straight face. That led me to the Podium Bandit. As you can see by the excerpt from my idea book, and the original inked drawing, this panel came together pretty fast. The only thing I changed was the idea that the official was to be really short and caught standing on a box. But that was just too many jokes in one panel. I thought it would steal away from a pretty good gag.”
